    Auxiliary Board Sculpture Clocks
Geek Computer Gifts - Computer CD Clock

This series of Steve's computer geek sculptures are made with all manner of the small circuit boards that are usually plugged into the motherboard (we just call 'em all "auxilliary boards" because we're not smart enough to know what they all are.)

There are modems, network interface cards, video boards, and all other kinds of high tech wizardry that we don't understand, and we sometimes couldn't even pronounce the name of the thing even if we knew what it was. But we have become highly skilled at removing them from the computer and cleaning (they're digustingly filthy when they are taken out of a dead computer!) and mounting them on wood bases, then mounting a clock on it to look really cool!

There's a ton of work in the wood bases: We start with raw, unfinished wood (mostly white oak), plane it to thickness (about an inch), rip to width, cut to length, route the edges to shape, cut the upper board with about a seven degree angle to make the clock 'lean back' a bit, sand, mount upper board and lower base together with glue and brads. Then some of them are spray painted various colors and the black edge around the bottom painted. Then all of them (painted or not) get at least two coats of spray lacquer.

Then the circuit board must be drilled in a good place to mount the clock motor (we'll keep the details on that a proprietary secret), the circuit board mounted to the now-completed base, and the clock motor assembled with face and hands, and a sweep second hand.

Now completed, each piece is signed on the bottom by Steve, dated with date of completion, and numbered with the next sequential number in Steve's log, and the details of the clock entered into the log.

NOW IT'S READY FOR YOU TO ADOPT!

We've been asked several times if the circuit board runs the clock: Sadly, it does not. The clocks are all mini-quartz movements accurate to within 3 minutes a year, run by a single AA battery (usually included).

    HARD DRIVE SCULPTURE CLOCKS
Each clock is unique in the wood grain (oak, poplar, maple, cedar and others) and hard drive but your clock will look very simular. If the exact clock pictured is no longer available, we may have another very similar for you.
